General Discussion : Who is Thuingaleng Muivah?

    Author: christ
Subject: Who is Thuingaleng Muivah?
Posted: 01 Jun 2010 at 10:41pm

Source: The Imphal Free Press
By: Vilhouthie Rhiepfu

Thuingaleng Muivah is a Tangkhul Naga who joined the Naga National Service only in 1965 and was given the post of General Secretary by the Naga National Council. After a few years he was sent by the Federal Government of Nagaland on a goodwill Alee mission. While in the foreign country, he was given a lot of honour because of his association with the Naga National Council (NNC). However, driven by personal ambition for power curl complete domination of the national defense, he started plotting against his own colleagues and eliminating those who disagreed with him. On their return journey from the foreign country, while crossing the Kachinland, he murdered Brigadier Ngamlao, Konyak and some others and started intimidating the others in the group. Many who survived this trip still remember Muivah’s words where he said “Kun Kun Phizo pichie jabo, guli ekta ekta khabo.” (Whoever sides with Phizo will each get a bullet).

In Naga culture, even when someone is doing something wrong, we try to tolerate, his wrong doing as far as possible without openly opposing him. However, Muivah’s wrong doing both spoken as well as acted out have all been recorded in writings. All these records show contradictory statements of arrogance, boastfulness, lies, treachery as well as humility. His utterances are full of diametrically opposed statements.

In his booklet “Manifesto and Polorization” (1980/1985) Muivah repeatedly called A.Z. Phizo, his family members, the Angamis and all who supported the Angamis as “Arch-Traitor” of the Naga Nation branding them as traitors and deceivers of the nation and being guilty of betraying the national cause. But now, in a complete turn about, it is most amuzing to hear him praising Phizo and almost worshipping him again. In the light of all the contradictory statements, one is left wondering as to how many Muivahs actually exist as one Muivah is often heard saying the exact opposite of the other Muivah!
It is common knowledge that Muivah joined the Naga National Service as late as 1965 only. Such a latecomer thinking and acting as if he alone can solve the Indo-Naga conflict is an act of self disillusionment which cannot evoke the respect and honour of any right thinking Naga.

Muivah had earlier declared that his talk with the Indian government would be at the Prime Ministerial level and in a foreign country. But his present talks with a mere Secretary of the Indian Home department he speaks volumes on who he actually is. Also his Z category security cover provided by the enemy and his inability to visit his own native village inspite of that protection has shown everybody, what kind of a Naga leader he really is.

In Naga national politics, NSCN is not NNC and NNC is not NSCN. Long before Muivah had even reached puberty, the national affairs of the Naga Nation had been mandated on the NNC by the Nagas. Therefore the NNC works for upholding and protection of the affairs of the nation. Muivah’s NSCN on the other hand is working for the integration of his Nagalim people under the constitution of India . In this effort, he is using the Naga national cause as a parent body, and while opposing the Manipur state is subversively trying to integrate the rest of Nagaland too under the Constitution of India. However, the Naga national affairs are in the hands of the Naga National Council (NNC) and the Council does not require the service of a Muivah to meddle in the affairs of the nation. Such a service is not only “un-required” but even invalid too.

Muivah’s uncountable records of murdering even his own people and intimidation of the general Naga public have all been documented and kept by his own people. In this connection, the general Naga public are urged to read the interviews compiled by David Swu in his book “Interview with Naga Leader.”

In order to keep our people informed with the truth, The NNC from time to time, as the situation demands, gives out press statements and other statements. The NNC will not however give rejoinders and counter rejoinders to statements as the NSCN is in the habit of doing. NNC will also not indulge in repeatedly engaging itself with what is obviously evil. It is up to the Naga people to stand firmly with the truth and persevere for victory of the truth.

At this present juncture, our people are being subjected to a lot of inconveniences and difficulties because of Muivah and his activities. On the one hand many villagers have been forced to abandon their homes and villages and live like refugees in neighbouring villages. On the other hand, the hosting villages have been compelled to look after there dispersed villagers at the cost of sacrificing so many working days, inability to attend to their field works, none attendance of schools by school children and fearfully living side by side with gun totting cadres of the NSCN-IM. In our custom and culture, while giving hospitality to guests in an obligatory duty on the part of the hosts, the NSCN have gone beyond all limits of courtesy by overstaying their limit. In our culture such acts are considered as shameless exploitation of other people’s goodwill and generosity.

In his track record, Muivah has killed some of our best leaders and have even boasted over those evil exploits. It is absolute taboo in our culture to share food or host such murderers of our kith and kin. To associate or have social engagements with such people is taboo in our culture.
May that which is good, be ours.

Now, appeasement policy and no-confrontationist policy is not going to work either. While these peace campaigns launched in the hills by our fraternal organisations to promote communal harmony is commendable and should be pursued, this alone is not certianly going to work magic.
We should be more proactive and work to reverse the process of Naganisation. Yes, Denaganization is the answer to all this mess. Now, how do we go about it????
We don't need to think very hard about this. We are a people of over a million population and so the responsibility of safeguarding our country is more on us and this is not to say that it is solely our responsibility. If Muivah thinks he could recreate a "Rwanda" in Manipur then what he failed to realize is that Nagas are no Tutsis and in such a conflict, the process of Denaganization will be hastened and successful. Every tribe under the Naga umbrella will start to disown this term and we could make sure that this happens. Here i'm not advocating communal war even though i might sound like. We should not physically harm anyone but face the enemy with their own strategy.

Great discussion. The answer is simple, If a lonely gal, with mini skirts and t-shirts with their inner wear strips revealing, strolling around at a deserted look alike place, no wonder she will be more prone to such incident.

Another example is that if a gal living in a rented room have frequent visit from her male friend when all her roomate were out of the room. Author: admin
Subject: MSAD statement on Mao Gate firing and Muivah visit
Posted: 16 May 2010 at 1:03pm

India Government: We Know Your Policy
MSAD Press statement

Manipur Student’s Association Delhi strongly condemned the Indian
State sponsored brutal assault by Manipur Police on the protesters at
Mao Gate on 6 May 2010 that had killed three students, Mr Loshua, Mr.
Chakho and Mr. Lokho; and infliction of casualty upon several others
including women, children and senior citizens. The Indian State
(including its puppet Manipur Government) is fully responsible for
this unfortunate incident. MSAD called upon the concerned government
to conduct an immediate judicial inquiry into the incident. The
government should extend all the necessary supports and medical
assistance to those who have suffered casualty in the incident.

The Mao Gate firing incident was a continued process of the overall
reign of terror hitherto confined in the valley districts of Manipur
unleashed by the Ibobi government. The Ibobi regime had been
sponsoring killing of civilians in the name of maintaining law and
order. Government of India has been encouraging such terror activities
by awarding gallantry awards to several Manipur police personnel, e.g.
many of them were decorated with gallantry awards by the Indian state
on 15th August 2009 for killing people. What has become alarming is
that the rampant repressions upon political assertion had left the
people of Manipur with no space for peaceful democratic dialogue and
consensus. There is no space for civil liberties in Manipur under
India installed Ibobi regime in Manipur.

Regarding Muivah’s visit to his birth place we would like to assert
that everyone has the right to live and freely roam in his / her
homeland where his / her umbilical cord is being buried. Several
selfless individuals had laid down their lives for the sake of their
people and country. MSAD considers that those who have stood for
democratic political cause to defend their people and country from
external invasion and subjugation system are not criminals. Leaders
and cadres of NSCN-IM, militant organizations of the Kuki-Chin- Mizo
communities that are under suspension of operation with the Manipur
government and other India banned underground organizations such as
the UNLF, PREPAK, RPF, KYKL, KCP and PULF should not be treated as
criminals and they must have the right to visit their people and
homeland on humanitarian ground without any restriction. Many of them
have missed their homes, relatives, and cultural rights for several
years. Let them visit and roam freely and interact with the people for
open dialogue and solution to the decades old political armed-conflict
prevailing in Manipur. We would encourage everyone to welcome the
rebels to visit their respective homes. Let them enjoy what belong to
them.

Territorial integrity can never be defended by military barricades
without the support of the people who inhabit the territory. We
believe in voluntary unionism of communities where each community is a
stakeholder in the collective polity, economy, culture and other
common platforms. The Indian state had terribly failed in this aspect
in its Manipur policy. It had fully relied on its military power to
defend an Indian empire by suppressing the right of democracy of the
subjugated people of Manipur. Military can only invade and create a
colony, it cannot create a nation. The same logic applies to Manipur.
The territory of Manipur can never exist in the present form for any
longer period if it is an extended colony of any chauvinistic policy.
The territorial integrity of Manipur can only be protected by the
unity of the communities. The Manipur police that is supposed to
provide with security to the ordinary citizens can never be the
vanguard of any superimposed territorial integrity unacceptable to
all. Any section of the Manipur population who would seek for armed
intervention to defend the territorial integrity of Manipur from
dissenting politics is merely imitating the brutal mechanistic
approach adopted by the Indian state while attempting to defend
territory of the Indian empire. Manipur Students’ Association Delhi
strongly opposes heavy deployment of armed personnel in and around the
market area of the Mao Gate.

The Indian armed personnel including the Manipur Police Commandoes can
never be a substitute for the growth of amicable political dialogue
and consensus among the people of Manipur. The state as we believe is
the instrument of oppression of the ruling class irrespective of any
community background. The police acted as the backbone in defending
the state. The terrorist regime under Ibobi government is anti-people.
Ibobi is yet to adequately address series of fake encounters. We still
remember how Sanjit and Rabina were killed in broad day light and how
the issue was diverted by Ibobi. An adamant and stubborn Ibobi will
commit all forms of treachery and misbehavior to retain power and loot
the resource of the people. Several villages are being displaced and
large tracks of agricultural lands are being destroyed in the name of
developmental projects. If any person or any section of the population
would eulogies Ibobi and the MPCs as angels of integrity, it would
encourage Ibobi to carry on with his puppetry under the subjugating,
oppressive and exploitative overarching Indian rulers. Let us fight
against it together.

Emotional integrity among communities cannot be achieved by
restricting to organizing of intercommunity cultural festival and
hosting intercommunity grand feast alone. Emotional integrity has to
be corresponded with sincere effort towards mutual understanding and
co operation. It has to be gradually materialized along with gradual
and consistent efforts towards selfless creation of democratic
platform for transparent dialogue and consensus. We appeal to all the
civil societies in Manipur to follow the democratic principle of
recognizing each other’s rights and primordial attachment with
respectively imagine territoriality. At the moment of misery and
material scarcity any section of the population may not indulge in
generating artificial famine by the way of imposing economic blockade
along the lifelines of the population. We appeal to the Naga Students’
Federation, the ANSAM, the UCM and any other organization to lift
embargo (economic blockade) imposed upon the ordinary citizens on the
pretext of political bargaining.

Let us fight for peace together!

Apunbana Yaiphare

Press statement released and circulated by Manipur Students’Association Delhi, dated 8 May 2010

* This Press release was furnished by Bung Bung rojesh on Sat, 8 May 2010 21:20:25 +0530
